Community superheroes visit Loughborough College Radmoor Nursery
It was time to uniform up, sound some sirens and drench a ‘blaze’ when children at Loughborough College Radmoor Day Nursery were visited by some community superheroes this week.
Green Watch from Loughborough Fire Station arrived on campus to offer safety advice and to give 18 pre schoolers a chance to try out their life-saving gear.
“We have been teaching the children about how the characters they see in films and games who fly through the sky and zap baddies are not the only kinds of superheroes – we have them in our community too. People who help us out in our everyday lives,” said Veronica Savill, Manager at Loughborough College Nursery.
“Green Watch talked about the work they do – including rescuing animals - explained how to stay safe around matches and what to do if they spot a fire and let them try on boots, helmets and trousers they had brought with them, while they described how the uniform protects them. Obviously the children were swamped by the clothing but they were fascinated.
“Then the children got even more excited when they were taken outside to climb up into the fire truck, sound the siren and even to shoot water at a traffic cone from a hose.
“Green Watch really were fantastic with the children and their enthusiasm and ability to communicate with that age group so brilliantly helped them take on some important messages - and have a wonderful time with some real-life superheroes.”
