LOUGHBOROUGH COLLEGE GOVERNOR TURNS NURSERY APPRENTICE

A Loughborough College Governor was given a glimpse of what it takes to provide top quality care and education when he turned apprentice at the Radmoor Day Nursery.

Stuart Lindeman is a former Deputy Director of Education for the county and began his career teaching in secondary schools and colleges but admits working with under fives was a very different experience.

“I am a grandparent and my wife also teaches infants so I had some insight. I expected it to be demanding.

“There are babies and pre school children of all ages at the nursery but the staff are fabulous at tailor making the care and education they deliver, they are focused on every single child.

“I spent time with each age group, playing with sand and water, helping feed some children and reading others stories.

“My early career in education centred on much older children and this was very different. I have to admit I was exhausted but I also thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I am so pleased I was given the opportunity to turn apprentice in such a wonderful early years environment.“

As part of a host of activities at Loughborough College marking the tenth anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week, the Executive and Governors have been getting hands on with jet engine testing, a busy lunchtime service in the restaurant kitchen, experiments in the laboratory, engineering technology and even the College switchboard.
